The Busby-Woods household has been a hive of activity lately, it seems the Spring equinox is doing it's bit in providing positive growing energy.
The Knitting Bit
Hot off the needles this week, another set of knitted Fair Isle wrist warmers have been finished. I've honed the design a bit and put a 2 stitch seam allowance in the main colour along each edge. Looks better I think and allows for a thumb hole without getting caught up in the loops of wool at the back. I'm wearing them as I type as we are too stingy to put the central heating on during the daytime!
When I sew the ends in, I cast off in the same way as if I'm hand sewing, I put a couple of good knots in there. I find that simply weaving the ends in isn't quite enough as sooner or later they wiggle their way out and look untidy.
Actually, making these has done my sweede in a bit (colloquialism). Working such intricate patterns with fine wool has certainly been a good test for the new varifocal glasses but now I crave to work with chunky wool and grrt fat needles. A bit like a counter pose in yoga, where you stretch your body one way and then stretch it in the opposite direction to feel balanced. Anyway, the pattern for these is available on Ravelry if you fancy having a bash yourself.
The Crochet Bit
I've been going around in circles this week with my hooky time. Don't worry, all will become clear. I've been on the look out for vintage wooden stools to upcycle for some time now. Well, we've made a start and we're really happy with how they've turned out. Sean is getting involved with the wood and paint bits and I've been making the crochet covers. The key to successful crocheting in the round is to gradually increase and to make sure your hook size and tension are right so it doesn't go all crinkly. I've been following a pattern from 'Granny Squares' by Susan Pinner.

These two have been made with 100% cotton but I'm going to experiment with different types of yarn for the next ones.
Vintage Vampalicious Market - Castle Cary
Exciting news, there's going to be a new vintage & flea market in Castle Cary on the 2nd Sunday of each month starting on 12th April Vintage Vampalicious It sounds brilliant and will not clash with Fome Independent market which is the first Sunday of every month.
I've applied for a stall with effect from 10th May which gives me time to get more stock together, wish me luck!
Why not come along and shop? There's even a train station at Castle Cary.
